WIP report – The Dragon’s Den (1,881 words)

Word count: 1,881 / 35,000

I’ve started work on The Dragon’s Den, the sequel to my first novel, Chasing Sisyphus.

This baby’s had a few false starts.

My first attempt at Chapter 1 was boring. Like, “I couldn’t even bring myself to keep writing” boring.

The second attempt made me realise my plan for this series was SUDDENLY ALL WRONG and I needed to hit the drawing board—stat.

But the ball is rolling now. I’ve signed up for Camp NaNoWriMo again, under no illusion about hitting my 35,000 word target, mind you. Life has been super busy lately— Busy is the wrong word. Fraught with peril is closer to the truth. People have come and gone. Truths have surfaced. It’s rocked us all. My feet have only recently touched ground again.

The past year has taught me a lot about the mindset of writing, as well as the craft and trade. This month’s aim isn’t to smash my target, but to use whatever tactics I have on hand to keep trucking along.

That includes blogging WIP reports like this one, whinging on social media, and claiming all the free hugs and sympathy cake my friends can spare 🍰

In other news…

I have a new book coming out next month. You will know it from this post and this one. The mysterious and beautiful Chase Horan designed me a gorgeous cover, which I’ll share with you next week.

There’ll be a new story coming out via Wattpad too, but more on that another time.

Stay tuned.
